Everyone needs to know about the hope we have in Jesus. Baptism is one of those ways we share the story. It’s a way of saying to the whole world, “Jesus changed my life!” Perhaps you’ve been thinking about taking the next step of following Jesus in baptism. Here are some of the most Frequently Asked Questions.

WHY SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?
Baptism does not save you, it is an act of obedience as Jesus instructed, “Believe and be baptized.” (Mark 16:16). Baptism is also an outward symbol of an inward change God has done in you, as it shows and celebrates our new life with Christ (Rom. 6:3-5).

WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?
Baptism is the next step in your spiritual journey AFTER you have put your trust in Jesus. We encourage you to get baptized as an act of worship and obedience to Christ.

WHAT ABOUT INFANT BAPTISM?
At Oak Hill, we do not baptize infants because every baptism recorded in the Bible occurred when someone was old enough to understand their need for Christ and make a faith decision. In the Bible, we find Jesus blessing children, but He did not baptize them, nor did he instruct anyone to do so.

Your infant baptism was certainly a very special moment for your family. If you were baptized as a child, it was the intent of your parents that you would one day be a follower of Jesus. Your believer’s baptism can be viewed as the fulfillment of your parent’s wishes and in no way negates the baptism you received as a child.

At Oak Hill, we dedicate our infants/children during a special occasion called “Baby Dedication.” This is a ceremony intended as a commitment between parents and God on behalf of the child. The parents promise to raise their child in accordance with the teachings of Scripture until the child is old enough to make his/her own personal confession of faith.

CAN I INVITE MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS?
Absolutely! Baptism at Oak Hill is a celebration and is bound to be one of the highlights of your life as a Christian. Invite family and friends to join you on this special day as you publicly declare your faith and step forward into your new life.

WHO WILL BAPTIZE ME?
Our Pastors and Elders baptize individuals. If you would like to have others who have significantly influenced your faith walk, please let us know so we can plan for them to be in the water, too.
